Why does anxiety seem so convincing in the moment?

Why does anxiety feel so convincing in the moment? One of the most frustrating parts of anxiety is that even when part of you knows what’s happening… it can still feel incredibly real. That’s because anxiety is not just something you think about logically — it’s something your whole system experiences in real time. When anxiety is activated, what feels true can become much louder than what you intellectually know. This is one reason why simply telling yourself to “calm down” or “be rational” doesn’t always help immediately. Feeling convinced does not automatically mean danger is present. If this is something you struggle with, you are not alone — and it does not mean something is wrong with you.
