Depression - when to push and when to rest

When to push vs rest in depression Knowing when to push yourself and when to rest is not always straightforward. Pushing too much can leave you feeling more exhausted. Resting too much can sometimes keep things feeling stuck. And often, it’s not obvious which one is needed. Depression can affect energy, motivation, and capacity — which makes this balance harder to find. Sometimes your system needs recovery. Sometimes it needs gentle activation. The difficulty is that both can feel similar in the moment. That’s why this isn’t about getting it exactly right — but about learning to notice patterns and adjust over time. Small, flexible shifts tend to be more helpful than pushing hard or doing nothing at all. This is something that can take time to figure out — and you don’t have to work it out on your own.
